First Steps

When moving your entire household to another country, organization and scheduling makes everyone’s jobs much easier.

Here is a 10 step guide to what you should do:

  1. Make a list of what you want to take with you.
  2. Make arrangements to dispose of furniture you no longer need, this can be cumbersome.
  3. Give yourself enough time, a move is a complicated thing to plan. Give Hermes as much time as you can; at least 2 weeks’ time is necessary for a stress free moving experience.
  4. Trust the professionals. Tell them what you have and listen to their advice. We are here first and foremost to defend your interests.
  5. Plan ahead for delays and difficulties. In a move there are a lot of moving parts, anything as simple as an unexpected storm can throw a wrench even in even the best laid plans. Try to give yourself multiple days when a load can happen to avoid stressful situations. If you have a deadline or a must-move date please let us know, we will look high and low to craft a solution for you.
  6. Start your packing early, start with the items you will not need in the next few months/weeks.
  7. Research the custom requirements or speak with one of our knowledgeable staff so we can walk you down all the things you might need to do if you decide to go for a certificate of repatriation.
  8. Decide if you need any specialized services in the USA or in Greece. Our network of agents can offer you a variety of destination services including door to door and unpacking/unwrapping.
  9. Estimate the value of your shipment and decide if there are items that require itemized insurance, take photographs and inventory your high value items.
  10. Call Hermes!
